| COMPETITIONS
- University of Aberdeen LC Age Group Open Meet
27 & 28.04.19
We had six swimmers who entered & were accepted for this LC Meet with 32 swims
between them over the weekend. The Aberdeen Sports Village is a great venue & I
know a lot of the swimmers enjoy competing here.
Out of those swims the swimmers managed 22 LC PB’s & 1 equalled her LC PB.
There was some very determind racing with good work on starts, turns & underwater
work. In some of the swims the swimmers had never competed LC so this was a new
experience for them & in most of the events their entered times were converted from
SC & it makes a big difference actually swimming the event.
Ben Gray was a second reserve for his 50 B/C & as we did not expect him to make a
final we all left but as it turned out there were a few withdrawals, which were not
announced, & he would have got a swim had we still been there. You live & learn.
Very well done to Cara Bryce, Ben Gray, Emily McDonald, Lucy McDonald, Greig
McVicar & Michael Skakle you had a great weekend of swimming. Many thanks to
all the parents for getting them there, I think you had a good weekend too. I certainly
did.

- 2019 ‘IM’ TOUGH MEET
(Swim West Lothian)
17, 18 & 19.05.19
This is a great meet run over a Friday evening, for the distance swims, Saturday &
Sunday at Bathgate Leisure Centre which is a super venue. It is also easy to get to
which, to me, is very important.
We had 5 swimmers accepted for the distance events. Ines Donald, Kate Gray, Rose
Penman & Anna Perry all had the 800F/C & Michael Skakle the 1500F/C.
Unfortunately Rose was unwell & couldn’t swim that evening but the rest all swam
with 3 out of the 4 doing super PB’s. Both Anna & Kate took about 30secs off their
800’s & Michael took a massive 1.5mins off his time in the 1500. For some of the
swimmers this was the first time they had raced that event. Anna got the bronze medal
in her age group & the rest all were 4
TH
, great results.
Over the course of the weekend there were 55PB’s from Inverleith swimmers who
had a great time. There are too many great swims to mention them all individually but
it is so impressive to see our swimmers constantly improving & being willing to try
different events. I am delighted that we have more swimmers than ever who are trying
the longer events & the tough events. You won’t know if you are any good at an event
until you try it, you might surprise yourself.
It is fantastic to see the swimmers trying really hard to do the things in races that we
coaches constantly nag them about in training, so well done to everyone who took
part. Apologies if I have missed anyone, there were a lot of swimmers.

Glasgow International Swim Meet
24, 25 & 26.05.19
We had 6 swimmers qualify for this meet which is a very busy competition with the
fastest qualifiers swimming in morning sessions & the rest in the afternoon. The
timing of the meet is difficult as lots of swimmers have just finished or nearly finished
exams & have not been able to train properly. Despite this our swimmers managed 5
LC PB’s which was great. Others were not too far off their times.
Cameron Alexander did a good 200IM swim taking 5secs off his LC PB, Scarlett
Donald & Kate Gray did good 50BR PB’s with Kate doing a second LC PB on her
100BR. Ines Donald also did a very brave 200Fly which she had never done LC
before.
Well done to Cameron Alexander, Felix Hale, Ines Donald, Scarlett Donald, Kate Gray & Lucy McDonald for qualifying.

7, 8 & 9th June
ELST Distance Meet
We had three swimmers on Friday evening entering the 800 free, all making good PB's. Lucy getting Bronze. Saturday am saw Angela Bryce poolside with 6 swimmers, Michael got Gold and Ben Bronze for their 800 free swims.
The rest of the weekend was great with many Pb's, well done swimmers.

BELLSHILL SHARKS SUMMER SPLASH
22ND – 23RD June, 2019
Congratulations to all the swimmers who were accepted for this meet. Unfortunately we had a big number of call-offs for various reasons so our swimmer numbers were drastically reduced. We did, however, have some super swims from the swimmers who were able to take part.
We had a total of 20PB swims which is fantastic as by this stage in the term the swimmers are pretty shattered & just needing their holidays. I think the best swim was from Anna Perry who took 29secs off her 200Fly in the second last event of the weekend. Great swim Anna. Gabbie Glean also swam very well doing PB’s in all her events.
Results as follows:
Gold – Kerr Duncan 100BR
Silver – Felix Hale 100Fly
Bronze – Felix Hale 50BR
Sasha Hale 50BR
Daniel Main 100B/C
Fourth – Lucy McDonald 100BR

Sixth – Kerr Duncan 50B/C

Well done everyone & thanks to parents who were timekeepers that weekend.
2019 SCOTTISH NATIONAL OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS
27TH – 30TH June, 2019
Congratulations to the following swimmers who all qualified for the above Open Meet: Felix Hale, Ines Donald, Lucy McDonald, Orla Kennedy, Scarlett Donald & Hana Tallentire who swims in Oman but swims for Inverleith when she is in this country.
The Meet was swum at the Sports Village in Aberdeen which is a super venue & the swimmers enjoy competing there. Over the four sessions we had 5 long course PB swims which is brilliant. Most of the swimmers times were converted from short course & the actual swimming is very different from a converted time.
Orla Kennedy swam particularly well in both her events taking 7secs off her 400F/C swim & doing a PB in her 200Fly in which she had never swum long course before. Ines Donald also swam very well doing PB’s in her 200BR & 200Fly. Lucy McDonald had a good PB in her 400IM which is a tough event. Everyone else swam pretty close to their long course times & enjoyed the meet.
Well done.

2019 SCOTTISH SUMMER MEET
11TH – 14TH July, 2019
Congratulations to Felix Hale, Greig McVicar & Hana Tallentire who were all invited to swim in the above Meet. The selections are based on Long Course times & your ranking in Scottish swimming within a certain time frame. We would also have had two other swimmers competing, Ines Donald & Cameron Alexander, but they were on holiday & unable to take part.
The swimmers swam very well with Felix & Greig both swimming PB’s. Felix swam 7 events making 4 finals, his 400IM which was a great swim was ‘heat declared winner’ (HDW) with Felix coming 6TH. He also PB’d in his 200B/C both in the heats & final which was a fantastic swim. Felix’s other swims were very close to his PB’s.
Greig PB’d in both his 50F/C & 100F/C. He was 1ST reserve for the final in the 50 but didn’t get a swim. Greig came 12Th in the 100. Hana swam just outside her entered time for the 50F/C.
Results as follows:
Felix Hale – 400IM 6TH
50F/C 12TH
200 B/C 6TH
100F/C 5TH
200IM 8TH
100B/C 8TH
Greig McVicar – 50F/C 9TH
100F/C 12TH
Hana Tallentire – 50F/C 16TH
Very well done to everyone.

| REPAIRING RACE SUITS
One of our swim mums writes:
I recently discovered that Wright Sport will repair damaged competition suits and not just where the seam has split. They repaired this tear in the leg of the suit after it got caught on a chair and ripped. They charged £10 plus postage and we had the suit back within 4 days of sending it off. I contacted them on Facebook and they responded immediately. While it is not perfect, and technically no longer Fina approved, it is certainly wearable and absolutely worth the £13 it cost.

You will receive emails from our Competition Secretary, Shona Skakel, inviting you to various competitions that Fiona has selected for you. It is therefor up to you, the parents and the swimmers to decide which swims to enter for. You may not get into the event you have chosen, this is because of different reasons. The event may be a graded meet and you are too fast to enter, or there may have been too many entries for that event so they have to cut swimmers, it may be the faster swimmers who do not get to swim or the slower ones, this all depends on the rules of each meet. All details of each meet are on Swim Scotland. (link above)
